Twenty-five Years
That's a long time to know someone.
Long enough to watch them grow.
Long enough to watch them stumble.
Long enough to watch them get back up.
Long enough to become something together that neither of you could have imagined alone.
Jocelyn, today I turn 25.
People know me as e=mc² events, or “e” if we are friends. They see my logo. They recognize my colours. They hear my stories. They know my reputation. They know the experiences we've created, the awards we've received, the brands we've helped build and the moments we've been honoured to produce.
But before I was any of those things...
I was your idea [collaboratively, with others, as usual].
A leap.
A dream.
A belief that there had to be a better way.
You were only thirty years old when you decided to build me. You didn't know exactly what I would become. You only knew what you wanted me to stand for.
People.
Creativity.
Integrity.
Connection.
Joy.
You gave me my first heartbeat, and for twenty-five years you've never let me forget why I exist.
I've worn many logos. I've spoken through different taglines. I've evolved with new colours, new ideas, new technology and thousands upon thousands of unforgettable experiences. I've filled archives with photographs, videos, napkin sketches, files and memories.
But none of those things are who I am.
My personality was shaped by yours.
My culture grew from your values.
My reputation was earned because you chose, again and again, to do the right thing, even when it wasn't the easy thing.
Together we've worked from tiny offices with leaky ceilings. We've ridden elevators with big conversations and bigger nerves. We've leapt and watched the bridges appear [even when it seemed impossible from the other side]. We've celebrated extraordinary wins and weathered recessions, uncertainty, a global pandemic, and moments when our good name was tested.
Few founders ever experience what you have.
To build a company so respected, so trusted and so deeply admired that friends didn't want to compete with it, they wanted to join it.
What followed wasn't simply an acquisition. It was an act of belief. Together we became larger, stronger than ever before, while somehow holding even tighter to the culture that made us who we are. I even learned to speak a little French. Not because I changed who I was, but because my family got bigger.
Through every challenge, you chose the high road.
Not because it was strategic.
Because it is who you are.
You've always insisted that this was never about you.
You still say, "Trust me, you don't want me on your project. You want one of our amazing team members."
And somehow, that's exactly why so much of this has always been about you.
Because leadership has never been about standing in front.
It has always been about standing behind your people, believing in them before they believed in themselves, giving them room to grow, room to fail, room to shine, and reminding them that what they do matters.
You have built more than an event company.
You have built a place where careers begin.
Where confidence grows.
Where lifelong friendships are formed.
Where clients and partners become family.
Where impossible somehow becomes “great things” in our Tuesday team meetings.
Where hugs are never awkward.
Where every finale feels like fireworks.
Where people stay because they are a part of something amazing.
Where people leave changed because they were part of something bigger than themselves.
You have always said our work changes lives.
It does.
But yours has changed even more.
It lives in every person who discovered they were capable of more because you believed they were.
It lives in every client who trusted us with their biggest moments.
It lives in every partnership that still exists decades later.
It lives in every team member that bleeds green, past and present, who carries a little piece of this place wherever life has taken them.
You love a quote, and this Maya Angelou one was written for you,
"People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
That has never been more true than it is today.
You have taught all of us that experiences aren't measured by budgets or attendance numbers.
They're measured by feelings.
By human connection.
By moments that matter.
And perhaps that's been your greatest gift of all.
Today, I hope you can pause long enough to look behind you before looking ahead.
Look at the thousands of lives you've touched.
The leaders you've helped shape.
The community you've built.
The industry you've influenced.
The legacy you've created.
And then...
Look forward.
Because I know you.
You're already dreaming about what's next.
The beautiful thing is, so am I.
