#DriveThruGrad2020YYC was a collaborative of event industry professionals, businesses and venues, rallying together to celebrate the Class of 2020. Our goal was to safely provide a unique opportunity for graduates and their families, to choose to graduate their way. We felt they needed to be celebrated as they closed this chapter of their young lives, providing them inspiration and launching them into adulthood.

This was the class of 2020, not 2021, and definitely not the class of COVID-19.

The Experience

We created a safe, physically distanced live event experience for students to celebrate their achievement, over 10 days, in June as a student body or with their friends.

It was an outdoor drive-thru experience with students, families [and pets] safely distanced in vehicles, dressed in their banquet best, followed by an accompanying [and LOUD] vehicle of supporters. We provided a variety of safe photo opportunities [to replicate their missed banquet photos], as well as a large stage and screens for graduates to walk, jump, flip across while their parents cheered and honked loudly and proudly from their vehicles.

It culminated in a hosted and energy-filled, drive-in style ceremony and celebration, customized per student body with poignant messages and videos. All was broadcast on our website for families and friends to watch virtually and was fed via FM transmission to the vehicles.

There were so many impactful moments!

-The sheer joy of the graduates, the flips on stage, the mismatched gowns, awesome stilettos and converse sneakers, cut out grads, little sisters and the choice to graduate with whomever they wanted.

-The parents, their tears, their honks and thank you waves, their immense pride.

-The emotional impact on us as they cried and honked and waved.

-Our volunteers.
